When you purchase wood at an auction, you often have no idea of its specie, nor its origin. Unfortunately, the small scrap of this wood I was going to send away for identification disappeared during a thorough cleaning of the woodshop. This piece now belongs in a private collection, so it is likely I'll never know more about this wood, unless I happen to find another piece of it in my lumber rack.
