Interested in taking a woodworking class?
For a current schedule of classes, please click here. I am thrilled to announce that I am offering woodworking lessons here in Las Vegas. New classes start each month, and have limited enrollment, so that each student has an opportunity to learn in a safe and personable environment. Private lessons are also available, for anyone wishing to learn at their own pace. Registration has now started for the Spring/Summer 2012 session. Once you choose the class you would like to attend, you can send your deposit online, or mail it to the school. For more information, you can reach me at 702-631-1870. The school is located at 2267 W. Gowan, in units 106/107, in North Las Vegas. It's a modern warehouse facility - well lit, with high ceilings and great parking. The space is divided into two large rooms - a bench room and tool room, as well as a small gallery. Additional amenities include ADA compliant restrooms, a refrigerator and microwave. These classes are designed for anyone who wants to learn woodworking, or add to the skills that they've already developed. There is absolutely no experience necessary. In fact, people without any experience often turn into amazing woodworkers because they're learning the right way from the start. Since my degree is in Furniture Design, these classes will primarily focus on free standing pieces that you can design and build for your home. Some of the classes I've offered in the past include building tables, beds, bookcases, desks, and children's furniture. In the future, I hope to offer classes and weekend workshops, in areas such as picture framing, musical instrument construction, and much more.
Basic Woodworking is designed around making projects that might look simple, yet teach most of the basic principles of woodworking - lamination, squaring up a board, routing, sanding, finishing, design, inlay and hardware installation. Regardless of your experience, this class will teach you a new way of looking at wood, and provide you with pertinent tool experience to help you decide if you want to make the investment in tools of your own. Woodworking equipment is expensive, so it's wise to test the waters before making a financial commitment toward your purchases. Once you've completed the Basic Woodworking class, you are free to come in and work in the woodshop for OPEN SHOP Saturdays. This a four-hour session, where you "pay as you go", and can build anything you choose. There is always someone to lend you a hand, and if you don't have a truck or van, you can even have your materials delivered to the school ahead of time. Currently the hours are 11-3 PM every Saturday. Isn't it time you started learning how to build those projects you've been wanting for your home?
